Dark circles is a common skin issue that plagues most of us. The causes are varied and can be any of these:

  • Stress

  • Inadequate sleep

  • Excess eye rubbing

  • Excess screen time

  • Sun damage

  • Binge drinking

  • Smoking

  • Ageing

  • Dehydration

  • Medical problems

There are three obvious types, and you may have one or more of these types:

  1. Pigmented- Dark pigmentation of the undereye skin

  2. Vascular- Thin overlying skin with prominent blood vessels in the undereye area

  3. Structural hollowness due to shape of the underlying bone

It is vital to get yourself evaluated by a dermatologist to know which type you have and to draft a curated treatment plan for you.

Some general measures to reduce your dark circles include:

  • Get a full night’s sleep, of atleast 7-8 hhours

  • Stop smoking

  • Drink in moderation if you must. Avoid binges at all costs.

  • Stay hydrated always and cut down on salt in your diet

  • Protect your eyes with protective sunglasses and use SPF on the surrounding skin.

  • Cut down on your screen time

  • Always remove your make up every night before you sleep

  • Treat your allergies
