For men

Can men do it?

Oh yeah! We see a lot of male patients for laser hair reduction. The most common areas treated in men are the chest, underarms, back and buttocks. A lot of men also opt for beard shaping, and for the arms and legs.

The science behind it:

  • Lasers employ highly collimated laser beams of a specific wavelength that targets the hair follicle, and destroys it.

  • When dealing with Indian skin, one has to be very careful as this light also targets melanin (the pigment) in our skin, and can result in burns.

  • To avoid this, we use a highly specialized triple wavelength laser device that is tailor made and extremely safe for Indian skin.

What to expect?

  • On an average, a patient needs about 6-10 sittings for best results (this may vary depending on the area being treated, the thickness of hair, and underlying hormonal disorders).

  • With each sitting, you will notice the hair in the treated area becomes finer and thinner and takes longer to grow back.

  • The sittings are spaced out about 1-2 months apart, so you may take about 8 months on an average to see full results.

How should you prepare for it?

Avoid waxing, bleaching and epilation for atleast one month prior to your session. If you must, it is safe to shave your hair. However we don’t advice shaving for the week before a session, as we need to assess your hair growth before each sitting.

What to expect in a session?

  • Our sessions follow the utmost hygiene and medical precautions to protect your skin. We first mark out the areas to be treated, gently shave the areas and then proceed with the treatment. Though usually painless, in some patients, some areas such as the scalp or the buttocks may be a little sensitive. For these areas, we apply a numbing cream to ensure a painless experience for you.

  • The time taken for different areas depends on the surface area being treated. For example, just doing your your underarms may take 10-15 minutes while full chest and back may take about an hour owing to the large area being treated.

After the procedure:

To soothe the skin, we apply ice packs followed by a soothing cream to the treated areas. We prescribe certain creams to be used for 2-3 days after the procedure. You must use sunscreens and protect your skin from the sun for a few days after each session.
